The Molly Peacock Secret Poetry Room

The Molly Peacock Secret Poetry Room, which will open in 2023, recreates a hidden room that I discovered in the heart of Bartle Library when I was a first generation student there. It was a refuge room, so important for working class and financially challenged students who might never have had a room of their own to foster creativity. When I learned that the hideaway no longer exists, I knew I had to work with the Binghamton University Library to recreate it. It will be tiny, like a studiolo, with a comfortable chair and a small desk. Cozy places are creative places. And what students often don't have in public universities are just that, individual treasure box secret corners to come upon, and be inspired. So far we have raised enough for the initial cost of the room and we continue to fundraise for the maintenance of the room, activities connected to the room, and even a virtual room.
